Local public transport
The IGA Berlin 2017 is in fare zone B and can be reached via S-Bahn, U-Bahn, bus and tram.
S- and U-Bahn
The IGA Berlin 2017 is very well connected to the U5 line of Berlin’s express train network via the future ‘Kienberg - Gärten der Welt’ U-Bahn station (formerly ‘Neue Grottkauer Straße’), because the station is situated right by the ‘Kienbergpark’ entrance. Visitors can get to the horticultural exhibition in 30 to 45 minutes by public transport from Alexanderplatz or the Zoologischer Garten.
If travelling to the IGA via public transport, it is recommended that visitors use U-Bahn line U5 from Alexanderplatz (direct connection between the city centre and the IGA Berlin 2017) and S-Bahn line S5 from the city centre, changing to the U5 at Wuhletal station and continuing the journey to ‘Kienberg - Gärten der Welt’ (‘Neue Grottkauer Straße’ until November 2016). It is also possible to change between the S-Bahn and U-Bahn line 5 at Alexanderplatz, Frankfurter Allee and Lichtenberg stations.
U-Bahn line 5 (U5)
S+U Alexanderplatz – U Frankfurter Tor – S+U Frankfurter Allee – S+U Lichtenberg – U Kienberg - Gärten der Welt
S-Bahn line 5 (S5)
S Spandau – S Westkreuz – S+U Zoologischer Garten – S Hauptbahnhof – S+U Alexanderplatz – S+U Lichtenberg – S+U Wuhletal (change for the U5)
Bus route 195 runs every ten minutes on Eisenacher Straße to the north of the IGA grounds. Among other places, it connects Marzahn S-Bahn station to the ‘Gardens of the World’ entrance (‘Gärten der Welt’ bus stop). Blumberger Damm, to the west of the IGA grounds, is served by bus route X69, which runs every 20 minutes (‘Kienbergstraße’/‘Gärten der Welt’ and ‘Blumberger Damm’/‘Eisenacher Straße’ bus stops). The X69 route will also run on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays to improve accessibility to the IGA from Köpenick.
Tram line M6, which runs every ten minutes, and line 18 (Monday to Friday) link the city centre to areas in Marzahn Hellersdorf, Hohenschönhausen and Friedrichshain. Visitors can get from the Brodowiner Ring stop to the IGA by foot via a path that will be well signposted. The path is 800 metres long.
You can get further information from the Verkehrsverbund Berlin Brandenburg (VBB) public transport authority.
PLEASE NOTE: Between 24.07.2017 and 21.08.2017 the S5 only runs to Ostbahnhof S-Bahn station. During this time, use the U5 from Alexanderplatz S- and U-Bahn station. It is also possible to join the U5 at:
- Frankfurter Allee (S8, S46, S41/42, S9)
- Lichtenberg (S5, S7, S75)
