A Public Faculty about Resistance by Jeanne van Heeswijk

From 27 until 30 July 2017, Dutch artist Jeanne van Heeswijk invited artists and IGA visitors to the “Unkrautlabor. A Public Faculty about Resistance”. Non-existent from a natural history perspective, the term Unkraut is widely used in common parlance and mostly means something undesirable and irritating. Jeanne van Heeswijk challenges the usual distinction between herb and weed, cultivated and uncultivated, compares both in their diversity and opens up new conceptual spaces of experimentation. The “Unkrautlabor” is a collaborative and unconventional place of learning and forms part of IGA campus.

Jeanne van Heeswijk’s participatory projects combine art, city, and social engagement and follow the leitmotif of “co-production”. The “Unkrautlabor” is a collaborative and unconventional place of learning and forms part of the IGA campus.
