Rethinking the allotment concept! How about turning the garden into a collaborative project? Sharing the joy of sowing seeds, harvesting crops and gardening with other people? Future hobby gardeners can get numerous tips on this idea on the ‘Am Kienberg’ allotment site.
The starter garden is the result of an ideas competition in which creative concepts were sought for an allotment on the ten-hectare ‘Am Kienberg’ allotment site. The allotment site is immediately adjacent to the grounds of the IGA Berlin 2017.
The cooperation project organised by the state association representing the interests of gardening enthusiasts (Landesverbandes der Gartenfreunde e.V.), the ‘Am Kienberg’ allotment site, the German association representing the interests of garden design and landscape culture (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gartenkunst und Landschaftskultur e.V.) and IGA Berlin 2017 GmbH awarded the Ulrich Wolf Prize 2017 to the winning project ‘Culture Embraces Nature’ by Alexander Roscher and Eva Lange from Berlin.
In ‘Culture Embraces Nature’, the idea of urban gardening is turned into reality for several user groups. The concept creates space for relaxing, for playing and barbecuing together, for being self-sufficient, for keeping small animals and for dreaming!
